Dear Breakfast – the place to start your day in Lisbon

How do you want your eggs for breakfast? At Dear Breakfast they make them just the way you like it. Even when it’s three o’clock in the afternoon! This is definitely the place to kickstart another wonderful day in Lisbon. Great food in one of the prettiest places in town.

It’s not always easy for tourists to get a good breakfast in Portugal. For the Portuguese it’s mostly about the coffee, with perhaps a small bite to eat. But if you’re used to a full English breakfast or even a continental breakfast, it might be difficult to find (apart from the hotels).

Luckily in Lisbon it’s getting a lot easier as several new breakfast places have opened their doors in the last couple of years. My favourite? Without a doubt Dear Breakfast.

Interior

I don’t know what I like more, the food or how the place looks. Dear Breakfast is incredibly trendy, but totally in its own way. It’s like this white, serene cave, filled with green plants, Portuguese marble and a big mirrored ceiling. Are all the tables taken? Try if you can find a spot downstairs, where you’ll step in this dreamy pink world (even if you are sitting upstairs, make sure you check out the downstairs look). 

Menu

Inspired by the idea of developing egg-centric dishes paired with creative juices and cocktails, the Chef executes a seasonal menu of organic, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible for an all-day breakfast. No fan of eggs? Don’t worry, you can go for pancakes, toast, fresh fruit, yoghurt or just a simple croissant. I must admit I always have the same: the scrambled eggs with truffle and the yellow shake smoothie. I just can’t get enough…

Where

Dear Breakfast is located in Lisbon’s neighbourhood Santa Catarina, on the westside of the city centre. From Chiado or the Baixa it’s a walk of about twenty minutes. The address is Rua Gaivotas 17, a peaceful and small street.
