Romance and character at the Pergola House in Cascais
In the popular seaside town Cascais you have an enormous amount of hotels and resorts to choose from. Many of them are luxurious and high end, but that might not be your cup of tea. If you are more into character, history and romance the Pergola House is a much better option.
Pergola House is a lovely B&B in the heart of Cascais centre. Although it’s located in a street with shops, it’s still a peaceful place. The beautiful garden is full of flowerbeds and rose bushes. It brings you to the late 19th-century manor house, which has an impressive decorated façade. The antique tiles you see here are all hand painted.
Inside there are ten rooms, all with their own style. A white marble staircase leads you to them. The whole house is full of character, making you feel like 19th-century nobility. The paintings, wooden furniture, marble floors and antiques are just stunning.
In wintertime you can enjoy your breakfast beside the cozy fireplace. In summer you will prefer the shade of the outside terrace, while smelling the scent of the roses. It’s so nice to have this sort of retreat in the middle of bustling Cascais.
My own experience
When I stayed in the Pergola House a few years ago, I was suffering from severe heartbreak. I was struggling to not burst into tears every five minutes. But this guest house was making things better for me. Possibly because I fell a little bit in love with it. And it let me be my sad little self, sitting outside in the beautiful garden. Plus there was a shoe shop very close, which always helps a crying woman…
The Pergola House is located right in the middle of Cascais. The address is Avenida Valbom 13. You can easily walk there from the train station (if your luggage allows it). Parking your own car might be more difficult, especially in the high season, but it is allowed on the street.
